1. Send a Check
Still, got some checks lying around? Then you’ll want to put them to good use by paying your income taxes with them. What’s great is the IRS still accepts checks and even money orders, so these options are available to you.
Do note that you’ll want to put “U.S. Treasury” instead of “IRS” on the payee line. Also, put down your:
- Tax form number
- Tax identification number
- Tax period
The postmark on your envelope is considered the payment date, so if you send the check on April 14, you’re good!
2. Pay Online
If you want to pay estimated taxes online, you can do so! There are 2 methods here.
The first is to pay with your debit card. All you have to do is input your debit card number and that’ll take care of things. However, there’s a fee of around $4.
If you’d rather save that money, you can also set up an automatic payment. Just go into your online bank account and set up the payment to be taken out before April 15th. You’ll need to also attach your name and address, as well as the tax form, identification number, and period.
3. Use the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)
EFTPS is technically another online payment method, but you can also call the number to pay as well. You’ll need to set up an account first, as the IRS will send you a PIN and password.
Obviously, you shouldn’t want until the last minute to get an account. The payment needs to be scheduled the day before you want to pay your taxes (before 8:00 pm EST), so plan ahead!
4. Don’t Use Cash
If you want to pay in cash, we strongly recommend that you don’t choose this method. Sending cash is never a good idea since anyone can intercept the envelope and take everything inside it.
If you must pay in cash, then you might be able to at your local IRS office.
